If you’re looking for professional clutter removal in Baton Rouge but need more than someone to simply haul things away, a professional organizer may be the right fit.
We help you go through the clutter in your home, decide what you’d like to keep, donate, or toss, and physically work through the space with you. Once we’ve decluttered, we can organize what you’re keeping, take donations to a local donation center, and assist with normal household trash from the project.
This is different from junk removal. You don’t need to have everything sorted or know exactly what needs to go before we arrive. We help you figure that out.
How Does a Professional Organizer Help With Clutter?
A professional organizer can help you declutter and organize just about any area of your home.
That could be your:
We can help you go through the items in the space and decide what to keep, donate, toss, or set aside if you’re still unsure.
Once we finish decluttering, we can organize what you’re keeping and put things back in a way that makes more sense for you and your home.
Our goal is to help you gain space back, get rid of the clutter that’s been weighing you down, and make your home easier to keep up with moving forward.
What Does the Decluttering Process Look Like With a Professional Organizer?

Before your project day, we’ll already have an idea of what you want help with, your goals, and the areas you want to work on.
That way, when we arrive, we can get started instead of spending part of your session figuring out what you want to accomplish.
1. We Arrive Ready to Declutter
On your project day, your organizer will arrive at your home with boxes, trash bags, and an organizing bag with basic supplies we may need throughout the session. This can include things like paper towels, cleaning wipes, Ziploc bags, scissors, tape, and other small supplies.
Then we’ll get started in the area you want to tackle first.
2. We Work Through the Space With You
We typically work through one area of the room at a time, helping you go through what you have and decide what you want to:
- Keep
- Donate
- Toss
- Decide on later
As you make decisions, we’ll help sort everything into piles, boxes, and bags so the space doesn’t get even more chaotic while we work.
If you’re unsure about something, that’s okay too. We can create a maybe pile or box and come back to those items later. You always make the final decision about what stays and what goes.
3. We Declutter and Organize Based on What You Need
Our decluttering services typically last about five or five and a half hours, depending on the project.
Sometimes we spend most of the session helping a client sort through and declutter their belongings. As we work through the space, we also help organize the items you’re keeping. We don’t just leave you with piles of things once the decluttering is done.
We’ll straighten up the space, put items where they belong, and create simple organizing systems so what you keep has a place.
For larger projects, we may recommend multiple sessions, so we have enough time to both declutter and organize the areas we’re working on. We can get through as much as possible during the first session, then come back for another project day to continue.
4. We Help Get the Clutter Out of Your Home
At the end of the session, we don’t want to leave you with donation bags and trash sitting around.
Within reason, we can take your donations with us and drop them off at a local donation center. We’ll also help get normal household trash into your bins or out to the street for pickup. Depending on what there is and how much, we may sometimes be able to take some trash with us, too.
Before we leave, we’ll make sure we leave the space we worked in neat. If we’re coming back for another session, we’ll leave things in a way that makes it easier to pick up where we left off.
The goal during every session is simple: use the time we have with you to get through as much as we reasonably can without rushing you through decisions.

Professional Organizer vs. Junk Removal Company

One of the biggest things to understand is that a professional organizer is not the same thing as a junk removal company.
If you already have a big pile of stuff and know it just needs to be thrown away or hauled off, a junk removal company may be the better fit.
For example, if you have large furniture, mattresses, broken items, or a large amount of junk that you already know you do not want, you probably do not need someone to help you make decisions. You just need it removed.
A professional organizer is more helpful when you still need help going through everything first.
Maybe you have boxes in your garage, and you’re not even sure what’s inside them. Garages are one of the areas where clutter can build up quickly, especially when they become a place to put things you don’t know what to do with.
That’s where a professional organizer comes in.
We help you clear the clutter first, make those decisions, and then organize what stays.
If your garage is one of those spaces, we put together a guide explaining what’s included in a garage decluttering service and how we can help you work through it.
Can a Professional Organizer Help With Donations?

Yes. A lot of the clutter that comes out of a decluttering session ends up being donated.
At Professional Organizers Baton Rouge, we can help bag or box up your donations during the session, and within reason, our organizers can also take donations with them afterward.
We do have limits on how much we can take, though. We are not a junk removal company, so we can’t haul away large pieces of furniture, mattresses, or large amounts of junk.
For bigger removal jobs, you may need a junk removal company to come once the decluttering is finished.
We also don’t handle hazardous chemicals, old paint, or other items that need special disposal.
What About Trash?

We can also help with normal household trash from the decluttering process.
As we go through everything, we can bag up trash and help put it into your trash bins or set it out where you normally put your garbage for pickup.
Again, if you have a really large amount of trash or bulky items that need to be hauled away, you may want to use a junk removal company.
When Is a Professional Organizer the Better Choice?
A professional organizer is usually the better fit if you know you have clutter but still need help sorting through it.
You may know you don’t need everything, but you are not sure what should stay or go. Or maybe the project feels overwhelming, and you have been putting it off because you don’t know where to start.
We can help you work through everything, make decisions, haul out the donations and trash, and then organize what you are keeping.
That is really the biggest difference.
If everything is already decided and it just needs to be hauled away, you probably need junk removal.
If you need help going through the space first and then organizing what is left, a professional organizer can really help.
How Long Does Clutter Removal Take?
It really depends on the space, how much you have, and how much help you want.
Some projects may only take one decluttering session. Other projects may take multiple sessions, especially if you’re working through several rooms or have a lot to declutter.
A closet, pantry, or smaller bedroom may be something we can make a lot of progress on in one session.
A garage, several rooms, or an entire home takes more time and typically requires multiple sessions.
You don’t have to do everything at once. Many of our clients start with the area that bothers them most and decide from there whether they want help with anything else.
Clutter Removal Isn’t Just About Throwing Things Away
Clutter doesn’t necessarily mean trash or things you need to get rid of. Sometimes the clutter around your home is made up of perfectly good items that simply need to be put away or organized.
You may have piles of clean clothes that need to be folded and put back in your closet or dresser, miscellaneous items sitting around that need to go back to their proper places, or belongings you no longer need but that are still in good condition and can be donated.
That’s why clutter removal can look different from one home to another. We may help you throw away things you no longer need, box up items for donation, or work through the piles around your home and organize what you want to keep.
Once we know what’s staying, we can put those items away and organize the space so everything has a place.
